What’s best? Making the best decisions for your web project

Any sizeable web project will require the client to make crucial decisions at key stages. Time and time again we see successful sites working because the right decisions are made for the right reasons.
Here’s our 20 second run down on making sure you’re making the right decisions:
1) End user, end user, end user.
The #1 most important person in the world is your customer – the end user who will be using the site.
Their opinion matters most but unfortunately at the planning stages of your project they don’t have a voice. Buy yourself a big hat, mark it with ‘my customer’ and wear it anytime you’re thinking about your website and especially when you’re thinking about the design of your website. You’ll soon start to realise what you think is important for you and what’s (really) important for your customers isn’t always the same thing.
All too often people opt for the ‘really cool’ option that they themselves as users of the website would really, really hate.
2) Listen in – since you’re paying us to plan, design and deliver your site it’s definitely worth taking on-board what we have to say. Our point of view is often pretty darn good as we’ve more than likely been through the same scenario time and time again.
Our job is to make sure you’re informed to make the best decision possible based on our expert opinion and experience. If we don’t agree with you on a particular point it will probably be for a good reason!
3) Be practical and realistic – decisions will need to be made based on what’s practical for your budget and what’s practical for the company. There’s no point opting to take payments in Dollars, Yen and Kenyan Shillings if your accounts department can’t support them.
4) Paint by numbers – at the outset of the project you should have a clear list of what you’re trying to achieve and how you’re going to measure those goals. List them out 1, 2, 3, 4 and use this as your bible. Every decision made should be in-line with the project objectives – if there not something is probably wrong.
