Environmental policy
Webexpectations.com takes its environmental impact seriously and has an active commitment to recycling, reducing waste, sourcing ethically and minimising its energy use.
We aim to reduce our impact on the environment by applying simple, straightforward, manageable and practical recycling policies and encouraging/educating staff to act in an environmentally positive manner.
Every little helps and we’re committed to being green.
Stationary - All stationary such as envelopes, paper etc is sourced from recycled stock where possible. Staff are encouraged to use unwanted paper as scrap first before recycling.
Recycling - All paper and office products are recycled.
Printer Cartridges - We refill all printer cartridges for repeated use, saving money on the cost of expensive ink cartridges and the environment.
PC's - All PC’s are first reused internally, with high end designer's PC's being passed onto to lower end administrative roles as they age. Once a PC or monitor has passed its effective use within the company it is passed onto local schools for use or where not possible to Computers for Charities (www.computersforcharities.co.uk).
Minimising our Impact
- We switch all PC’s and IT equipment off at night to reduce the amount of electricity we use.
- We only buy fair trade tea and coffee.
- Where possible we source on an environmental basis e.g. recycled paper, envelopes etc, fair trade tea, energy-efficient fridge.
- We are looking at what is involved to reduce our carbon emissions starting with simple things such as only purchasing low-energy light bulbs as the old ones blow out.
Our Business
- We market ourselves to clients within the local area – Berkshire, London, Buckinghamshire, Surrey, Oxfordshire. At present 80% of our clients fall within this region. The main reason for this is working with clients within the local area makes good business sense but, as a positive by-product it reduces long distance travel to clients helping reduce carbon emissions
- Commuting – staff are encouraged to think about their commuting habits, at present 40% staff walk to work, 15% carpool as they live close to one another, 30% use public transport and only 15% drive in their own car.
- Paperless office – in practice an improbable dream but every little helps, staff are encouraged to use email where possible, think about what they are printing off and communicate with clients in an electronic fashion. A large part of this is thanks to the high-tech nature of our business (web design) but active thought has gone into what improvements can be made where possible.
